Bumblefoot is painful inflammation or ulceration of the soles of the feet, often caused by standing on wire-mesh floors or dirty, damp bedding — a reason small pets need solid floors.
It affects rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and others. Prevention is a solid (non-wire) floor, clean dry bedding, and keeping the animal at a healthy weight; established cases need veterinary treatment.
