Dental disease
Dental disease covers the overgrown, sharp or infected teeth common in small pets with continuously-growing teeth — usually from too little hay/gnawing, and a leading cause of a pet that stops eating.
Watch for drooling (“slobbers”), a wet chin, weight loss, a swollen face, eye or nose discharge, or a change in tooth colour. In degus, healthy incisors are orange — pale teeth can signal a problem.
