Dust bath
A dust bath is a tray of fine dust (chinchilla sand) that chinchillas and degus roll in to keep their dense fur clean and healthy — they bathe in dust, never water.
Chinchillas need one daily; degus a few times a week for about 20 minutes. Leaving it in permanently gets it soiled, and it should be sieved or removed after use. Their fur is too dense to dry safely if it gets wet.
