An exotic vet is a veterinarian experienced with small and “exotic” pets — the right professional for rabbits, rodents, ferrets, hedgehogs and sugar gliders, whose care differs from cats and dogs.
Because many small pets hide illness and react badly to some common drugs (several antibiotics are fatal to rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters), find an exotic vet before you need one — ideally an emergency option too.
