Scurvy (vitamin C deficiency)

Scurvy is the painful disease guinea pigs develop when their diet lacks enough vitamin C — causing weakness, a rough coat, reluctance to move, swollen joints and poor healing.

Because guinea pigs can’t make or store vitamin C, deficiency can build up quickly on the wrong diet. Prevention is a fresh daily source of vitamin C; a suspected case needs a vet.
