Cedar and pine shavings (and dusty sawdust) release oils and dust that can harm small pets’ airways and, in ferrets, are toxic — so safe, low-dust paper- or aspen-based bedding is used instead.
Choose dust-free options: paper-based bedding, aspen (for most rodents), or safe hay. Avoid fragrant, dyed or dusty substrates that irritate sensitive respiratory systems.
