Muesli mix
Muesli-style pet food is a colourful mix of flakes, seeds and pellets that small grazers can “selectively feed” from — a leading cause of dental disease, obesity and gut problems in rabbits and guinea pigs.
Because the animal picks out the sweet, starchy bits and leaves the fibre, muesli undermines the hay-first diet these species need. The modern standard is unlimited hay plus a measured amount of a single uniform pellet.
