Adrenal gland disease is the most common hormonal tumour in ferrets, caused by overproduction of sex hormones — its hallmark sign is symmetrical hair loss, often starting at the tail.
Other signs include a swollen vulva in a spayed female and increased itching. It’s diagnosed and managed by a ferret-experienced vet; the timing of neutering is thought to interact with the risk.
