Neutering & spaying

Neutering (males) and spaying (females) is the surgical prevention of breeding — important for many small pets both to allow mixed-sex or reduced-conflict companionship and to prevent serious disease.

In rabbits, spaying females prevents a common, often-fatal uterine cancer; a neutered male + neutered female is the classic bond. In ferrets, unspayed females can develop fatal anaemia if left in prolonged heat. An exotic vet advises on timing.
